DODGEBALL

Ages: 7yrs +
Participants Required: 6+

Equipment Required:

  • Space
  • Nerf Ball or a soft ball that will bounce somewhat (and won’t give the players welts preferably!)

Set Up Time:

  • 10 minutes+

Directions:

Divide the group evenly into two teams.

  • Team A forms a circle around team B.
  • Team A is given a large rubber ball.
  • At signal team A players throw ball at team B, attempting to hit them below the waist. Team B players may avoid being hit by moving or running aside or ducking.
  • When a Team B player is hit they must leave the circle and sit out or join Team A.
  • A player must leave the circle when hit OR a player who is hit may join team A.
  • When all players on Team B have been hit, then it is Team A’s turn in the center.
  • Leader may time the eliminating process to determine which team eliminated its opponents fastest to determine a winner (if so desired).

Variation: Donkey Dodgeball (requires a group of 8 or more)

  • Group is divided into team A (4 people) and Team B.
  • Team A goes into the middle and forms a “donkey” (chain) by holding onto the person in front of them by the waist.
  • The front and middle people in the chain are trying to protect the back of the “donkey” by using their bodies as a block.
  • Team B is trying to hit the back end of the donkey below the waist.
  • The thrower who is successful at hitting the back end of the donkey heads to the front of the “donkey” chain.
  • The person who was hit joins the circle and the game continues.

General Rules:

  • No hits above the waist are allowed.
  • Whoever can catch the ball can throw it (you may also want to ensure each person has a turn to keep things fair, or add another ball for fun).
  • Have fun and keep moving!
