Warning signs of concussion:
It's your head-don't knock it, only cartoon characters don't get hurt from a bump on the head. For the rest of us, concussions can result when we sustain a blow to the head or neck. A concussion is a temporary disturbance of brain function that can result in serious brain injury.
Don't mess with your brain. If someone suffers a head injury, watch for the warning signs of concussion.
- Partial or complete loss of consciousness
- Shallow breathing
- Nausea or vomiting
- Casualty 'sees stars'
- Loss of memory of immediate past event
Concussions can have hidden risks. A casualty may appear to have recovered quickly, but could be suffering from a more serious injury, such as compression.
It is always important to seek immediate medical help.
