SUN TIPS
FOR SPORT CLUBS AND ATHLETES

Encouraging sun safety and providing a sun safe environment promotes the good health of your members and enhances the reputation of your club. You can incorporate sun safety into your facility so that those participating or watching sportS are protected.

Time of day
Try to schedule sport events to avoid the midday sun when ultraviolet rays are strongest.

Shade
Awnings and umbrellas will help shade people.

Clothing
Uniforms and clothing lines produced for your club should cover as much of the skin as possible and hats should be wide-brimmed.

Sunscreen
Promote sunscreen use wherever possible. Encourage members to use a broad spectrum, SPF 15 or higher sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going out. Reapply every two hours, especially after vigorous activity or sweating. Don't forget to use an SPF 15 or higher lip balm.

Top Tip
All staff and coaches should be good role models when it comes to sun protection. Wear hats, cover up with clothing, seek shade when possible and use sunscreen.
